Your source for nourishment, inspiration, and joy

Hey guys!

My name is Alicia King and I am originally from Georgia but have lived in NYC for 10 years. So officially, a New Yorker!

I am a former model and Beauty Marketing professional, having worked for both L’oreal USA and Estee Lauder. Today, I consider myself to be a style, beauty and food enthusiast. Most of my experiences in NYC center around food, fashion, and beauty. So much so, that my latest project is to start a blog focused on just that.

I work in the hospitality/food industry, managing a trendy restaurant on the LES. I love my job as it's super dynamic and allows me to express my sense of style. It's also a great spot to meet young, fashionable people. My flexible schedule allows me to spend time writing and creating content for my blog (set to launch in March!).

I truly have a passion for beauty and skincare and I LOVE to eat! I love creating beautiful content that is vibrant, colorful and reflects my bubbly personality. Super excited to have you take a peek inside my Sakara day-in-the Life, follow my social media and soon to launch blog because they truly reflect my love for beauty, food and fashion. My perspective and passion from having worked in the fashion and beauty industries will hopefully inspire future readers and followers to eat well and live beautifully, stylishly and never without a smile!

xo, Alicia :)

9:30 First thing first is water. I like room temp water and I always keep a large bottle on my bedside table. I brush my teeth and wash my face using a gentle cleanser; Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser is perfect for days before I have Laser treatments. I then put a full dropper of Spring Valley B complex with B12 under my tongue. I love this stuff! Since using this I have noticed such an improvement to my level of energy. My grandmamma recommended to me and grandma knows best!

My morning ritual is continued with yet another drop… I put 4 to 5 drops of Sakara Beauty Water Concentrate in a glass of water. I LOVE the smell of roses and rose water and this is like drinking a garden. I love that rose is an anti-inflammatory and Silica supports collagen production. It’s such a relaxing and beautiful moment in my morning.

10:00 Next I have breakfast, which I like in bed.  I like my first meal to be light, as I am not hungry for the first few hours after waking up. I know how important breakfast is so I like options that are nourishing but aren’t a hassle or too heavy. The Detoxifying Chicory Yogurt Bowl is perfect. I love the crunchy coconut flakes and cacao in the creamy yogurt. Plus it’s yummy and has benefits that helps aid digestion and deflect inflammation! I enjoy this while checking emails, social media and sending my round of good morning, I love you text messages to boyfriend, friends and family.

10:30 Once I’m finished with breakfast, I stretch. Seriously this is my favorite part of my day! And not the only time I stretch either. (I am a habitual stretcher…I do so all day). Even though I exercise and try different types of workouts, I am not going to paint myself as a fitness fanatic. However, I am extremely athletic and have a naturally muscular build. My muscles are most tight in the morning. I do simple stretches, no poses or anything impressive, but I find that even the motion of touching my toes and stretching my hands above my head, actual movement, gets my heart rate going and actually wakes my body up. I stretch for AT LEAST 30 minutes.

11:30 I make my way to Skin Laundry Midtown East for a laser treatment. I have been getting treatments once a week for about 3 months. I have noticed such an improvement in the texture of my skin and a visible reduction in smile lines around my mouth. I had problematic skin this past summer and have issues with hyper-pigmentation so I find these treatments also help with fading spots…over time though.  So I’ll be patient with the process. A process that is also quite pampering ☺

12:00 It's back home, to the UES, to shower and get ready for the day.

My skincare routine is very minimal on days where I get treatments. I can’t use masks, acids etc. And most of my skincare products are quite active, so I stick to a simple moisturizer, such as Glossier Priming Moisturizer. It's light and a perfect extra layer of moisture before makeup. (Skin Laundry applies moisturizer with SPF post-treatment).

I usually light a candle, listen to music and dance around while I get ready.

I like to enjoy as many meals at home as possible, especially during colder months. However, I don’t cook much on the count of my kitchen being very…petite. So I opt for convenience. Sakara is perfect because it’s convenient and clean.

12:45 Today’s lunch, the Cleopatra’s Cauliflower Salad is so delicious. The savory dukkah coated avocado contrasts so well with the sweet peaches (whoot Georgia Peach here!) I am meeting a friend for coffee later in the afternoon but I like to get out and about to just experience the city. I consider myself to be a style, beauty and food enthusiast. Most of my experiences in NYC center around food, fashion, and beauty. So much so that my latest project is to start a blog focused on just that. I call this stage of production, “the content gathering stage”.

1:30 After lunch, I pack my bag with Sakara essentials and get on my way to SoHo to check out the Glossier You showroom.

2:15 Next I mosey about SoHo. I often get “an outfit shot” by a street style photographer or what have you. It's fun to connect with creative & entrepreneurial spirited individuals. Even on the smallest scale, I like to be a part of and help others fulfill a project.

I pop in and out of shops and take note of the social climate of beauty & fashion. I love that beauty, especially natural beauty and skincare is becoming more accessible.

3:00 I meet my friend, Stephanie for coffee at Birch Coffee in Soho. I worked with her at L’Oreal and she took over my role at MAC Cosmetics (Online Marketing) last year. She’s such a fun person to talk to about beauty and trends. Plus she always has a goodie or two for me because she’s the sweetest! Side note: I love to eat Beauty Chocolates with my coffee as a sweet treat ;)

4:30 Next I head to CAP Beauty. I have never been to the store but follow the blog, which is absolutely beautiful and has such great posts/interviews and I get the emails. I am eager to learn more about The Daily Hit, which was featured in their email last week. While at CAP I explore the product selection and ask question after question after question! Learned all about adaptogens, and sampled product after product! I love the intimate experience of the store and the women working there. Everyone is so friendly and informative.

5:45 I meet Steph for another drink but this time it's Prosecco Happy hour at Bar Veloce on West Houston. Always in a mood for bubbles!

7:00 I have one drink and actually eat my (perfectly cool thanks to ice pack and freezing weather) Sakara dinner at the table (never hurts to ask the restaurant, with a smile of course). While my friends look over the menu, I enjoy the Harissa Falafel w/ Cashew Tzatziki + Ruby Hummus. The ruby hummus is so yummy, and I love salads with bold and complex flavors. I felt as if I didn’t even need the dressing - but I did anyway ☺

8:30 I finally head home.

9:15 Once in I wash my face and take a steamy shower. I spritz May Lindstrom the Jasmine Garden on my face and inhale. I love floral scents! I put on a Skin Laundry Wrinkle Release Facial Sheet Mask. I put on one of these before bed on days where I get treatments. It’s soothing and leaves my face glowing in the morning!

I relax and watch Stranger Things (just finished 1st season). I have a few glasses of water and add 4/5 drops of Detox Water Concentrate a glass. I love how subtle the taste of these drops is yet how effective they are. The Chlorophyll and magnesium help remove toxins and encourage regularity, which also helps my glowing face in the morning☺

In 15/20 minutes, I take off the sheet mask and rub in extra gel - no moisturizer etc. Again my skincare routine is the most minimal on treatment days.

I then refill my humidifier and add a couple of capfuls of The Laundress Scented Vinegar. It helps keep the machine clean, which in turn keeps the mist I breathe in clean and it smells amazing.

I turn off TV and call it a night! ☺
