How to Sakara-ify your days all summer long.
Eat clean, play dirty. It’s a phrase we live by at Sakara, especially come summertime. We believe you are what you eat the majority of the time. That means that there is no dieting, no failing, no guilt, and no “wagon” to fall off. We know this can feel a little intimidating when you’re getting started with Sakara and luxuriating in the mind-body benefits of organic, whole food, but know that you hold the power in your hands for how you want to feel.
So, how do you keep living your best Sakara Life throughout summer celebrations, beach vacations, and last-minute fun? Read on for guidance.
RISE & SHINE: Start your day with a boost of functional hydration by adding 1-3 droppersful of Beauty + Detox Water Drops to 8oz of water. Made from essential daily greens and ionic minerals, they help to flush out toxins and get skin glowing. If you can, enjoy your H20 in the sun for an extra boost of vitamin D. (For maximum bliss, try to stay off your phone for the first 20 minutes of the day—we know this can seem challenging, so try replacing it with another ritual, like meditation or light movement.)
BREAKFAST: Greet each day like a gift by nourishing your body with plant-rich, functional foods (for inspiration, check out 7 of our favorite breakfasts). We love breakfasts that are versatile and adaptable to the seasons, like the Bircher Bowl, which can be layered with any types of seeds you have available. Start with a ¼ cup of rolled gluten-free oats, then add 2 tablespoons of chia and one tablespoon of hemp seeds. Follow this base with ½ cup of plant-based milk and a teaspoon of vanilla, then look to your superfood pantry: sprinkle in goji berries, seeds, reishi powder, your favorite nut butter, bee pollen, berries, cacao nibs or cinnamon.
MID-MORNING: Brew a cup of Detox Tea, or make an iced weekly batch for a 100-percent caffeine- and stimulant-free beverage. Our signature blend made with South African red Rooibos, lemongrass, and rose, helps you stay hydrated and flushes out toxins.
LUNCH: Summertime is the ideal season to take an outside lunch, and make time to plate your food. For a spontaneous mid-day celebration, design your own plant-rich Mezze board inspired by Middle Eastern traditions and flavors, with fixings from your fridge. Build a foundation with gluten-free crackers, an assortment of colorful vegetables, and a plant-based dip like baba ghanoush or beet hummus. Take your time to enjoy mindfully— allowing your body to better enjoy and digest your food.
AFTERNOON: Joyful movement is an essential part of the Sakara Life—and complements the nourishment you’re putting into your body. Even if you just have 20 minutes, head out for a walk, a bike ride, or a dip in the sea (or nearest pool!). Your mind, body, and spirit will thank you.
DINNER + DRINKS: Dig into one of our favorite peak-season dishes: corn tacos with spicy slaw and cashew crema, featuring a rich umami flavor and immune-boosting mushrooms. If you feel like “playing dirty”, pair it with a Detox Citrus Margarita—a blend of grapefruit, oranges, a dash of organic tequila—and Detox Water Drops (which contain chlorophyll to remedy tired skin and bloat).
AND ONE LAST NOTE ON CRAVINGS: Lastly, know that cravings are natural—rather than ignore them, listen to the cues your body is telling you. The more you practice body intelligence, the easier it will be to decide whether you want a mid-afternoon cookie because you’re hungry and it ignites joy, or out of default or habit. Saying ‘yes’ to ‘indulgences’ when it feels good is a small yet powerful act to show kindness to your body!
Let this guide serve as a jumping off point for both your summer days and your Sakara Life. When in doubt, incorporate tons of leafy greens, superfoods, and color to build a plate that is as beautiful as it is nourishing to brain, gut, and your overall health and vitality.
