The hashtag, “#smoothiebowl,” elicits well over 2 million posts on Instagram; safe to say, it’s a trending breakfast option. For Sakara’s Creative Director, Lianna Tarantin, it’s not in her meal repertoire. However, she saw the rainbow-drenched dishes as an edible art project to make while at home. “I wanted to make recipes that were aesthetically beautiful as well as super tasty and healthy,” she says. A visual artist at heart, she invented three smoothie bowl recipes that each tell a unique color story. The first is an effervescent yellow, with a base of juicy, tropical fruits and anti-inflammatory turmeric. Then, for those who crave a daily dose of greens to kick off the day, there’s a verdant bowl of spinach, avocado, and mint, balanced with sweet banana and given a batik drizzle from Detox Water Drops. Her personal favorite is a play on an NYC juice shop smoothie that she—in un-lockdown days—has in hand, without fail: a deep, cocoa-colored smoothie bowl with a cold brew base. She gives it a digestive-fire twist by adding a scoop of Metabolism Super Powder. All three are sprinkled with the Sakara Granola to heighten the nutritional value and add a crunch that would be sorely missed otherwise. Get one, snag all three, or mix and match to craft your own edible art. With functional ingredients like ashwagandha, matcha, and goji berries, her mornings are now vibrant, nutrient-dense, and fueled by creativity.

MINTY GREEN

Directions:

Place all smoothie base ingredients, except for granola and toppings into a high powered blender. Pro-tip: It's best to add in liquid ingredients a little at a time for desired smoothie consistency. Blend on high until thick and creamy. Pour smoothie in a bowl and place it in the freezer for 5 minutes to set. Remove from freezer, and get creative with toppings and how they are placed. Let the colors, shapes and textures of the ingredients inspire you, and remember to eat with your eyes first!
